Site Selection

The "four requirements" of Chinese government on establishing the eco-city: firstly, to highlight a type of resource efficient and environmentally friendly; secondly, to be in accordance with related laws and regulations as well as polices in China; thirdly, to be favorable for improving capability of independent innovation; fourthly, to stick to separation of government and enterprise.

The two principles for selecting the site of the eco-city: one is to embody the exemplary significance of establishing an eco-city with resource constraints, especially in an area dominated by non-arable land and lack of water resource; the other is to be in proximity to a centric city, with the support of mega-city's advantages in transportation and service, to save construction cost of infrastructure.

Locality

Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city is formally specified in the Coastal Leisure and Tourism Zone in the TBNA, along the northern side of Beijing-Tianjin urban development axis, at the core area of Circum-Bohai region and in east China. It is 15km away from the core area of the TBNA, 45km from the Tianjin proper, 150km from Beijing and 50km from Tangshan. Its scope is as follows: east to Hanbei Highway — planned Central Avenue, west to the Ji River, south to the estuary of Yongdingxin River and north to planned Jinhan Expressway, covering an area of 30km2.

The site selected neighbors industrial functional zones in the TBNA, endowed with favorable communicate and infrastructure conditions capable of providing infrastructure guarantee for the eco-city including water, gas, electricity, heating and communication etc. and favorable for the eco-city to make development achievements in a short time.

Conditions

The current land within the boundaries of the eco-city is composed of 1/3 of saline land, 1/3 of water area and 1/3 of wasteland. The saline-alkaline degree of the soil is high and it belongs to an area short of water induced by water quality. To build an eco-city under comparatively bad natural conditions further improves the exemplary significance of the eco-city.
